Some of the questions we get asked a lot
There are a number of pet friendly options where you can walk your dogs off lead. Just remember that you may not take your dog into the National Park. Need a place to stay that’s pet friendly. Just ask us.
And then some. The Giants Castle slack packing trail is an upmarket 3 night trail overnighting in lodges. The Vulture Trail is a 2 night slackpacking trail in the Northern Drakensberg. Tell us what you are specifically looking for and we will give you the best recommendation.
Antbear Lodge is very easy to get to, staff are extraordinarily friendly and helpful.
I would recommend Antbear Lodge to anyone who wants to relax for the weekend in beautiful scenery or who wants to use it as a base for exploration of the Drakensberg Region. Feel free to ask us for advice we are available anytime.
The Drakensberg is a great destination anytime. The best time for hiking is in autumn (April and May) or spring (September and October). The days are warm at this time, but cooler than during the hotter summer months (November to March), when you’ll also experience daily thunderstorms. Ask for advice before you book and we will tell you where to get the best bang for your time and expectation.
July has the highest likelihood. Snow is impossible to predict but brrrace yourself … It snows every winter. Snow just makes the Drakensberg Mountains even more dramatic and spectacular. Ask to be put on our snow alert list and we will keep you informed with where to experience the best snow.
There is something for everyone. Even hiking trails are available that are wheelchair friendly. Some trails require significant fitness and experience. Tell us what you are looking for and we will point you in the right direction.
